One of the epistemological problems discussed till the middle of the XX century is the one related to the scientific status of social sciences; in this context, the validity of using natural science methods in the field of social sciences is discussed. Certainly, the current epistemological criterion has a positivistic character, in which objectivity and verification are the requirements of which no science can escape. Psychology is no exception.
In our paper, we shall discuss about some distinctions related with the object of natural sciences in the field of positivism, and on the other hand, of phenomena social sciences deal with. We shall focus our reflections on one aspect that we think relevant when we come to the formation of researchers or social scientists, we mean the phenomenon of subjectivity and its qualitative approach. Thus, we shall deal with the problem of conscience in the processes of knowing the Other, assuming conscience as a distinctive human capacity.
By means of conscience, which it is not topographic, that is similar to the Other’s conscience, subjects relate themselves, project and establish intersubjective relationships. This type of relationships formulated and developed in every day’s life, have unsuspected influence in the social relationships that the authors establish.
To deal ith this problem, we shall assume qualitative and interpretative criteria by means of phenomenological approaches.
