Abstract

The present study had as aim analyze the evolution of the relations between the Social Emotional Climate (SEC) and the compo- nents of the National Peruvian Identity (Identification with the country, Collective Self-esteem and National self-stereotypes). To accomplish this, two studies were realized: one in the year 2006, in which 276 university students took part (17 to 28 years), and other one in the year 2009, in which 200 university students took part (16 to 30 years). The results show that the positive SEC its associated directly, and in a more intense way, with the positive dimensions of the Self-stereotype (reliable, capable and happy, and patriots), that with the variables of Identification with the country and the Collective self-esteem. In the first study (2006), the SEC was perceived as neutral or ambivalent, but this perception changes in the second study (2009), where the SEC was perceived as predominantly negative. This last finding might indicate that the SEC is less stable than identity.
