Author Guidelines

Límite, Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy and Psychology, belongs to the School of Psychology and Philosophy of the Universidad de Tarapacá (Arica-Chile), and publishes articles on philosophy, psychology, and their interdisciplinary crossroads. In 2019, the journal moved to a continuous publishing model. This means that articles are published online as soon as they are accepted.

1. The journal includes original and unpublished research papers on current theoretical and empirical issues in the fields of philosophy, psychology and their interdisciplinary intersection. Its purpose is to contribute to the production and dissemination of philosophical and psychological research and to be a means of communication between national and international scholars.

2. The type of work must be in the modality of an original research article, written in Spanish, Portuguese, or English. The article can not be submitted to other journals for consideration.

3. The originality and timeliness of the research should be reflected in the bibliographic discussion. This should be properly up to date, focusing mainly on texts published in mainstream journals (i.e., indexed in WoS, Scopus, ERIH PLUS or SciELO). The required timeliness of citations differs according to discipline. In psychology at least 60% of the references must be from the last five years, especially in empirical articles. While in philosophy and interdisciplinary articles at least 50% of the articles must be from the last 10 years.

4. Empirical articles in psychology, whether quantitative, qualitative or mixed, should follow the following structure in their sections: abstract, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, and references. In the methodology, they should indicate the approval of an ethics committee and explain the informed consent process. The minimum number of bibliographic references required in psychology is 20, while in philosophy and interdisciplinary works no minimum number is stipulated.

5. The recommended length of articles is 8,000 words including references.

6. The formal aspect of using quotations and references should follow the style norms of the American Psychological Association (APA, 7th edition). Authors can download templates and article samples here.

7. Articles should be submitted with an abstract in Spanish and English of 250 words maximum and 3 to 5 keywords in Spanish and English.

8. The name(s) of the author(s), institutional affiliation, postal address, e-mail address, ORCID or ResearchID ID numbers, and academic profiles (Google Scholar, Academia.edu, or ResearchGate) for each author should be included in a separate file. All authors must have significantly contributed to the research. This information must also be added in the "Metadata" section of the submission.

9. The submitted articles are first reviewed by the Editorial Committee.  If approved according to their relevance and pertinence, the articles are sent to at least two external peer reviewers, who the Editorial Committee suggests according to their area of expertise. 

10. The external evaluation process is carried out under the double-blind peer review modality, preserving the anonymity of both authors and reviewers and the confidentiality of the article's content until it is accepted and published.

11. The external reviewers deliver their recommendation to the Editorial Committee through an Evaluation Guideline provided by Límite. This guideline considers aspects such as originality of the work, adequacy of the technical contents, methodological design, updated information, style, and writing (structure, clarity, and organization of the text). Based on these criteria, the evaluators must choose one of the following recommendations:

Resubmit for Review
Decline Submission

The recommendations must be justified and accompanied by detailed comments that provide constructive feedback to the authors.

12. In case of notably discrepant recommendations, the Editorial Committee may seek a third evaluator. Once this third evaluation is completed, the Editorial Committee finally decides whether to accept or reject the article based on the recommendations from all the evaluators.

13. The work submitted for evaluation must not have Copyright granted to third parties. The editor reserves the right to make minor editing modifications for a better paper presentation.

14. The source of financing of the manuscript, if any, should be clearly indicated.

15. To guarantee the independence, objectivity, and scientific rigour of the published work, authors must communicate in writing the existence of any relationship with public or private entities from which a possible conflict of interest may arise.

16. All authors must inform the editors and provide retractions or corrections of mistakes or errors in their articles in case of later detection. Please review the Ethical Guidelines of the journal.

17. Límite is an Open-Access publication. Publishing in Límite has no cost or fees for article processing (APC) or article submission. Authors send their contributions free of charge, which are submitted to editorial processing at no cost to the author.

18. Authors are authorized to self-archive their accepted manuscripts and the final PDF version published by the Journal once published, both on their personal websites, their profile in academic and social networks such as Academia and ResearchGate, and in other online repositories of choice, such as PhilPapers an ArXiv, among others.

19. The content of published articles is the sole responsibility of their authors and does not express the views of the Universidad de Tarapacá or the Journal. Total or partial reproduction of the works in this publication is authorized, provided that the source of origin is cited. Please cite: Límite. Authors agree that all accepted manuscripts, galleys, and related documents are released under a Creative Commons (CC BY 4.0) license.
